Daily Term: Vertical Scaling

Vertical Scaling

Vertical Scaling, or scaling up, involves adding more resources (e.g., CPU, RAM) to a single machine to handle increased demand. For example, upgrading a server with more memory can improve its performance for a database. Vertical scaling is simpler than horizontal scaling because it doesn’t require distributing workloads, but it has limits—there’s a maximum capacity for any machine, and it can lead to a single point of failure.
